What It Looks Like
Recognition signals — when you see these, think of this structure:
- 1Proof problems where direct approach is difficult
- 2Showing something is impossible
- 3Converting 'if-then' statements
🎯
What It Really Tests
The core mathematical idea behind this structure:
If 'P implies Q' is true, then 'not Q implies not P' is also true (and vice versa).
如果'P蕴含Q'为真,则'非Q蕴含非P'也为真(反之亦然)。
⚠️
Why Students Get Stuck
Common mistakes to watch out for:
- ⚠Confusing contrapositive with converse
- ⚠Not negating both parts correctly
- ⚠Assuming converse is equivalent (it's not)
💡
Your First Step
How to begin thinking about problems with this structure:
When direct proof is hard, prove the contrapositive: show that if the conclusion is false, the hypothesis must be false.
当直接证明困难时,证明逆否命题:表明如果结论为假,假设必为假。
